I remember the day clearly. There I was, sitting at my kitchen table in 2016, carefully cutting out my face and photoshopping it onto a fitness magazine cover. Some might call it manifesting, others might call it crazy. I call it taking "delusional action" – that moment when you act as if your wildest dreams are already inevitable.
Was I qualified to be on a magazine cover? Probably not yet. Did I have connections in the publishing world? Absolutely none. But I had this burning desire and a momentary flash of wild confidence.
So I did something bold. I found every single email address I could from Oxygen Magazine's website. I'm talking accounting@, info@, careers@ – literally every address I could find. Then I crafted an email with my photoshopped vision board attached and hit send. Not just once, but to every single address.
Then I waited. And followed up. And followed up again.
Most people would have given up after weeks of silence. But I had this calendar reminder set to keep reaching out. Looking back, I'm sure someone at that magazine was like, "Who is this persistent woman from Rhode Island?"
Then one day, it happened. The editor-in-chief herself responded. Not to offer me a cover (yet), but to invite me to a small photoshoot in a church basement in Connecticut. For wrist exercises. Not exactly glamorous, but it was my foot in the door.
From there, I focused on building a genuine relationship. I helped her find models, makeup artists, and photographers. I supported her vision while keeping mine quietly alive.
Five years later, in 2021, I received the message I'd been waiting for: "Angela, I have an opportunity for you... it includes a cover."
The most beautiful part? I'm grateful it took five years. The woman who graced that cover in 2021 wasn't just seeking validation – she had overcome a torn ACL, built a business, and had a story that could truly inspire others.
That's the power of taking delusional action. You may not get immediate results, but you set wheels in motion that can change everything.
What "delusional action" are you ready to take today? What's the bold move that feels a little crazy but could transform your path? Remember – it only takes one moment of courage to change everything.
What if it all goes right?
